Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep

Sleeping Baby

Get ready to drift off...

Feeling a little drowsy? Your sleep regimen could be to blame.  It’s not easy to get things in order when it comes to our sleep hygiene, but it is essential if we want to function to our highest potential during the day! So what is it that we should (and shouldn’t) be doing?

Here are some tips for how to get better sleep, according to the health and wellness experts at SheKnows.com:

  1. Do NOT watch television in bed.  I am guilty of this one.  The truth is that this can be one of the main culprits of bad sleep.  Reserve the bed for sleep and keep your TV watching restricted to other rooms.
  2. Relax! Put on some soothing music to help you drift off.  This will help get you to slow down, so take advantage of this time to calm down and take care of yourself.
  3. Maintain a bedtime ritual.  This can include anything from a nice bath to meditation and yoga poses.  Try to keep to the same routine every day and do it in the same place every time so you can program your body to know that it’s time to wind down.
  4. Try a natural sleep aid if you have to.  Ideally, you won’t need the help, but if you do, stay away from over-the-counter medications and opt for their natural counterparts.

Residents, are you ready for an impressive display of pyrotechniques and aerobatics? This weekend, from August 28-29, is the time for all that and more, as the 2010 Colorado Sport International Air Show will take over Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.

The weekend will be filled with activities, from the Twilight Air Show to the Barnstormer’s Ball and an amazing fireworks show! The ball, which starts at 7 pm on Saturday night, will include food and beer vendors and a DJ.  Later in the evening, there will be a hot air balloon display and a pyrotechnique salute to men and women in uniform.  Another part of Saturday’s festivities is CAF’s Red, White & Loud Tour concert, which will feature Aaron Tippin.  For tickets to weekend events associated with the air show, visit the Rocky Mountain Regional Fly-In online.

Here is a video teaser of the Viper West F-16 Demo Team in action, preparing for their participation in the show:

Will any of you Horizons at Rock Creek residents be attending the show on Saturday or Sunday?

Suitcase Filled With MoneyYou need a vacation and you’re ready to book your trip, but wait…Where will you get the money to finance it? The good news is that it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you are anticipating.  So how can you get the most out of your vacation AND your dollar?

There are many things that you can do to ensure that you are putting your money to good use with minimal stress:

1. Book in advance: This should go without saying.  The earlier you book, the better your chances of finding a good deal.

2. Find the deal, THEN pick the place: Instead of the other way around, base your decision more on the rates you find.  This will make it easier to get the most bang for your buck.  You may want to go to Switzerland, but if you can get more days for less money by going to Ireland, why not do it?

3. Read the reviews: Seeing that others have had luck at finding great destinations can help you reassure yourself that you are making the right choice.

4. Search high and low: Literally.  You obviously want the lowest fare, but it will likely take some digging.  Don’t give up! The low fare you are looking for is out there; persistence pays off.

5. Keep your eyes open for hidden fees: We all know they’re out there, so anticipate that you will find them if you look.  Don’t let the ads fool you.  Do your homework and you will reap the rewards when you secure a fare that you can easily afford.

There are so many other things you can do to ensure that you are able to kick back and enjoy your trip without the stress of knowing that you can’t afford it.  Visit Yahoo!Shine for more helpful tips, and have safe travels!

Ready to fly? Whether you are an advanced aerial dancer or in need of an introduction, Frequent Flyers Productions has a class for you.  The 12th Annual Aerial Dance Festival presents an opportunity to become immersed in the art of dance over the course of a 2-week period – August 1-14.  Summer is the perfect time to pick up a new hobby, so if the arts are your thing, be sure to sign up to be a part of it!

Aerial dance often involves partnering and incorporates an object that is attached to the ceiling – for example, a motivity trapeze.   During the festival, you will participate in classes, demonstrations, lectures, performances, and informal discussions about this particular style.  There is no better way to learn to dance than to just throw yourself into it head first, so get ready to do just that!

For those of you who are not familiar with aerial dance, here is a video that will give you a little taste:
